Osmium jewelry
More and more jewelers are now offering osmium jewelry. More and more countries are jumping on board and at many trade fairs osmium in its crystalline form is now used as an inlay for highly exclusive jewelry, for elaborate art and for expensive watches.
Osmium is being incorporated into jewelry replacing diamonds, which are clearly losing value in recent times. Every jeweler and jewelry manufacturer has the possibility to order almost any shape.
On www.osmium-jewelry.com you can find the Inlay Assistant, a software with which manufacturers of series and goldsmiths can order their customized shapes easily and quickly.
The shapes can be very creative. There are only a few manufacturing guidelines to follow when setting osmium. These guidelines can be requested free of charge from the Osmium Institute's hotline. +49 89 7 44 88 88 88.
The breakthrough of the precious metal is mainly due to the Osmavé, i.e. a "diamond carpet" made of osmium. Particularly fine shapes and pointed corners can be cut, which is not possible from diamonds and other gemstones.

Geometries
Classically, osmium is offered and sold in flat geometries. Osmium inlays are therefore also always flat shapes, but almost all requested shapes are possible, up to a length of 9 cm and surfaces of 80 cm². Some standard shapes like Osmium-Diamonds and Osmium-Stars are small flat elements in round and in star shape.
The orignal shape in which osmium is crystallized, osmium discs, are used as semi-finished products in manufacturing when these flat shapes are to be cut out.
However, when cut by wire EDM, in addition to the usable inlays, there are also cut-out residual parts that cannot be used further because they have already been crystallized but cut into negative shapes. This material is called offcut and is included in the price calculation of jewelry.

Bespoke shapes
In general, the following applies: Almost any shape can be cut as an inlay.from crystalline osmium. To have a desired shape created, simply visit www.osmium-jewelry.com.
Here, the inlay assistant will support you to enter the data for the piece. A number of factors must be considered when calculating the price.
These include, sparkle grade, surface, cut edge length, topology, i.e. the number of penetrations, and some other data related to sequence and timing.
The simplest way is to submimt a computer created cutting file. However, a high-resolution image with dimensions is also sufficient if the pieces are not too complex.
The quote can be queried directly after entering the data into the inlay assistant. And the shape can be ordered immediately.
It is important to know that it is possible to work with your own material as well as to have searched for crystalline osmium in the Osmium Marketplace. Here osmium can be purchased cheaper than on the website www.osmium.com, provided that a private seller can be found who wants to offer their goods at a good price.
The purchase can also be conducted by the company Oslery GmbH. The team then provides goods that fit well together, in terms of crystallization characteristics.

Processing
Osmium is easy to work with when set like a diamond on a ring or in a piece of jewelry.
However, it can also be glued or soldered. When soldering, the temperature limit of 400 °C must be observed to prevent the formation of osmium tetraoxide, which is volatile and thus spreads through the air.
During soldering, the solder metal directly reduces the osmium tetraoxide back to the element and releases the oxygen again. If a pungent odor is noticed, work should be stopped and the room ventilated.
Processing guidelines can be found at www.osmium-jewelry.com. Courses can be easily attended virtually from home for sales and processing at www.osmium-academy.com.
However, an institute employee will also be happy to visit you at your workplace and explain how to handle the spectacular precious metal.

Hublot
Hublot writes:
"A Classic Fusion with the most precious of precious metals".
If luxury is synonymous with rarity, then osmium is the most prestigious of precious metals. In the Classic Fusion Firmament, as an absolute world first in the history of watchmaking, Hublot has incorporated this metal, which is one of the rarest elements on our planet, into a timepiece."
Osmium, found in platinum ore, is so rare that about 10,000 tons of this ore are required to obtain just under 28 grams of osmium. Platinum itself is a metal of great rarity value, and when global deposits are compared, about 13,000 tons of platinum are matched by only about 200 tons of osmium. Osmium is the rarest stable element in the earth's crust.
Because osmium is quite unstable in its raw metal state, Hublot uses a crystallized form for its Classic Fusion Firmament. This is created by a unique process developed by a team of scientists and researchers in the neighboring Swiss canton of Valais. In this process, the metal osmium reaches its melting point at 3,033 °C, at which point it changes its structure and transforms into osmium crystals, a far more stable form of this element.
The Classic Fusion Firmament features a 45mm case in polished and satin-finished black ceramic or fully polished platinum. Hublot has not limited itself to making its dial out of osmium, but the brand has also managed to incorporate the metal crystals into the skeletonized tourbillon movement. It provides a stunning contrast to the anthracite ruthenium-coated bridges visible on both sides of the movement.
Through their crystals, which vary in size from one ten-thousandth of a millimeter to a few millimeters, the osmium elements exude a silvery and blue glow reminiscent of a starry night sky, which inspired Hublot to name this watch "Firmament." This term describes the sky as a tangible mass and was already common in many cultures in ancient times.
